Fit Note Temporary Extension Period

The requirement to obtain a Fit Note after 7 days to show proof of sickness to an employer or for a DWP benefit claim has been extended to 28 days.

Therefore if sick you can self certify for 28 days and your employer should not ask you to get a FIT note.

This has been brought in by the UK Government to reduce GP workload during this busy period.

Fit notes do not have to be provided for DWP benefit claims until 27 January. This will not affect claims to benefit.

If you are concerned about your health condition, you should continue to see your GP.
